My name is Joshua Adams and I am a Registered Clinical Psychologist with experience in psychotherapy, clinical psychological assessment, psychological consultation and advocacy, facilitating groups, teaching and curriculum development, supervision, and public speaking.
I have been working with vulnerable people with mental illnesses for over 13 years. While employed with the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre (the largest shelter and homeless services provider in Canada), I became their first ever Registered Psychologist.
I am passionate about helping people find their authentic selves and live out their intentional and chosen purpose. I love striving to look past peoples’ difficulties and redirecting their attentions to their passions, values, dreams, and authentic selves.
I look forward to meeting you, hearing about your dreams and passions, and creatively helping you overcome any obstacles keeping you from your authentic self.
Professional services geared to your specific issues with the purpose of alleviating psychological pain and distress and improving functioning in your employment, relationships, and personal life.
I currently use the Gottman Method for Couples Counselling, an approach based on research on what works and what doesn’t work in relationships. Click here for more information.
“Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential” (International Coach Federation). It is a supportive, practical, empowering, and collaborative process to intentionally identify clear goals and develop strategies and action plans to achieve them.
a full psychological assessment may be helpful in clarifying your mental health struggles; provide direction and recommendations for treatments and supports required; assist in disability funding applications (CPP-disability, AISH applications, Alberta Works Income Support, disability tax credit); and assist in legal advocacy. Currently I am only offering psychological assessments for adults.
a few sessions may be sufficient to help you determine a plan of action to address your or your family’s psychological struggles. I am knowledgeable about various resources and services in Calgary and beyond.

I believe that all people have value and worth, no matter who you are. I believe that, just as a plant will flourish if giving the proper conditions—sunlight, water, nutrients—so also every person will flourish when they receive the necessary and sufficient conditions for psychological well-being which include genuine understanding, care, and acceptance.
