What is Solutions-Focused Brief Therapy

Solutions-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a brief form of therapy which is collaborative and focuses on solutions rather than problems.

Collaborative: SFBT therapists view their clients as the experts on themselves. The therapist, therefore, is curious to find out what the client’s strengths, past successes, and goals are.

Solutions, not problems: SFBT therapists avoid diagnoses or labels. They will ask clients about what is working well and times when things were better. Sometimes just trying something different can be helpful!

Present-Focused & Brief: SFBT focuses on the present and finding solutions that work now. Insight and understanding is good but finding out what will help you right now is better! SFBT therapists are not interested in understanding the problem as much as solving it.
